IS THE MOC EXAM RIGHT FOR ME?
The MOC exam (or Maintenance of Certification) is a traditional, 4-hour test center exam that can be taken every 5 years to maintain certification. It has roughly 170 questions, it covers the same material that you studied for the Initial Certification exam, and you cannot use any books or notes during the test. This means that you will need to know approximately 2500 topics.
If you prefer to have a “one and done” experience with board review materials, even if that means a long exam once every 5 years, then this option may be the right option for you.
To confirm, do these statements seem to describe you well?
Reviews
Mentally prepare yourself for the commitment needed to pass the MOC exam
Since you could be tested on any topic within the field of pediatrics, you will focus your studying on a traditional board review study guide. While the types of questions will vary, the difficulty level will not be the same as the difficulty level of the Initial Certification exam. We recommend that you set aside 100-150 hours of your time to go through our materials two times (though many only go through it once).
As you start to prepare for the exam, please keep these things in mind:
Focus on test-taking strategy. You are no longer an elite test-taker, and perhaps you never were. When people prepare well but still fail the MOC Exam, it’s usually because they lacked good test-taking strategy. Consider taking a test-taking strategy course.
Your time is precious. Life gets busy, so try to map out your 150 hours of studying and be sure to avoid taking on too many extra responsibilities at home or at work. Also, use a multimodal approach to your studying. Make the most of your extra time in commutes with an MP3 audio course or streaming Online Video Course.
Use concise materials. The recertification exam is easier than the initial certification exam. Avoid using dense materials to study. Use materials that give you just what you need to know (no fluff) and are explained in easy-to-understand language.
THE BENEFITS OF OUR MOC EXAM STUDY GUIDES
Time-Saving
We know how busy the life of a physician can be. Adding studying to that isn’t exactly fun. So we cut out the extra information that is NOT needed to pass. With congruent resources working synergistically together, you can leverage your time at home, in the car, and at work.
Manageable & Repeatable
Learning requires repetition and reinforcement. Our members frequently share stories of going through the materials multiple times because of how concise everything is. You should go through the material at least once, and ideally twice. The curated content and PBR’s straightforward language will allow you to easily review everything you need to know 1-2 times before your exam.
Congruent
PBR’s many resources were created to work synergistically together. Since our audio course, video course and picture atlas follow the order of the topics in our hardcopy content almost exactly, you get to learn in a multimodal way (which has been shown to increase learning) without feeling overwhelmed.
It’s The “Easy Way”
Board exams are never “easy”, but knowing exactly what to do and how to do it will make the board preparation experience much more tolerable. We have a plan for you, and it’s worked time and time again. So please do not study from multiple resources or attend a live course. That would be “the hard way”. Use a streamlined system that helps do one thing; EASILY maintain your board certification.
Priority Customer Service
PBR knows how stressful exams can be. We get it. After all, PBR was created by me (Ashish Goyal, a double-boarded physician) who failed his peds exam the first time. So when you have questions, or are in need of technical support, our #1 goal is to help you quickly and completely in order to eliminate your stress. And if you have a question that only I can answer, you WILL hear from me!
100% Pass Guarantee
We believe so strongly in our proven track record to help our members pass that we provide a 100% Money Back First-Time Pass Guarantee.
